“The idea for ARFAX originated in 1961 when a number of women at the various clubs in Arlington and Fairfax counties wanted to play competitive golf outside their own clubs, and District Golf Association had a maximum Handicap of 21. Ruby Angsten of Washington Golf, along with a small group of women from Army Navy, Belle Haven, Cedar Crest, Chantilly, Fairfax, International, River Bend, Washington and Westwood, had formed the “21" PLUS” group. They started talking about an organization similar to the District Golf Association for those women Golfers who did not qualify for the 21 HCP and under Rule. Thus, in August 1962, these women started ARFAX with 50 members.”
The first ARFAX tournament was played in June 1963.
ARFAX has grown over the years and now includes clubs in Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties.
